NFPA Codes and Standards -- the authority on fire, electrical, and building safety

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is an international nonprofit organization with a mission to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, fire and life safety training, and education. There are more than 80,000 members from around the world and more than 80 national trade and professional organizations that rely on the NFPA standards and codes including NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace, developed by NFPA.

NFPA was founded in 1896 and today serves as the world's leading advocate of fire prevention. The NFPA is also an authoritative source on public safety through the application and use of NFPA codes including NFPA 101 and other prominent fire and life safety codes. In fact, NFPA's 300 codes and standards influence every building, process, service, design, and installation in the United States, as well as many of those utilized in other countries.

NFPA codes and standards have helped save lives and protect property around the world. The technical committee volunteers and staff of NFPA are dedicated to the single mission of continually enhancing public safety. That dedication can be seen in the fire safety regulations found in the NFPA standards and codes that are adopted and developed through NFPA's commitment to creating a consensus among those interested in safety.

Today, NFPA is meeting the needs of people in multiple disciplines by offering NFPA standards and codes online, on CDs, and in print. By making NFPA codes more accessible, it is our hope that more people will adhere to NFPA's National Fire Codes, fire safety regulations, and the NFPA code development system.
